The Entry Level Referee School is the basic course that you must take to become a Grade 8 referee. A Grade 8 Referee is the beginning level of referee for travel league games. The Entry Level Referee course consists of 16 hours of lecture followed by a test and test review. You must past the written test with a satisfactory score to be certified as a Grade 8 referee. The course will usually take place over two weekend days or several weekday evenings, both followed by the testing period. The cost of the class is $35. At the conclusion of the course, a written test is given that you must pass to become a registered USSF referee. The cost of becoming a registered referee is $25 per year and you can complete the paper work for your first year at the end of the class. The minimum age for taking this course is 14 years old.
The Grade 9 Recreational Referee Course has been designed to develop referees specifically for U14 and below recreation level programs and is geared toward supporting the younger referee. The minimum age for taking this course is 12 years old. The Grade 9 Referee Course is a 9 hour class and the cost is $15. The cost of registering with the US Soccer Federation is $20 and you can complete the paper work for your fist year at the end of the class.
The Grade 9 to Grade 8 bridge course is open to Grade 9 referees who have been registered for a year and now wish to upgrade their registration to a Grade 8 referee. Candidates must also be a minimum of 14 years old. The Bridge Course is a 12 hour class and the cost of the course is $20. You must past the written test with a satisfactory score to be certified as a Grade 8 referee. The cost to upgrade to a Grade 8 Referee is $25.
